The purpose of this article is to analyze the rise and fall of the attempt of the Adalet ve Kalkinma Partisi (AK Party) or Justice and Development Party to effect a solution to Turkey’s longstanding Kurdish problem, in part through attempting to steer Turkey through the European Union (EU) accession process.
